<p>The Mallow Camera Club 2013/14 season will commence on 09 September at 8:30 p.m. in the Mercy Centre, Mallow. An exciting programme of events for the season ahead will be unveiled on the night. <p>Mallow Camera Club chairman Bill Power won his first Gold Medal at an international salon recently.  Bill’s photograph &#8216;Amethyst Deceiver&#8217; won the Photographic Society of America (PSA) Gold Medal in the &#8216;World Around Us&#8217; Salon in Serbia.  In addition to his medal win Bill also had five more of his images accepted in the salon. <p>Yet more salon success for John Hooton and Bill Power over the summer months.  John had two acceptances including an honourable mention in the Devon Salon of Photography, while Bill had two acceptances in the nature category of the salon.  Both John and Bill also had acceptances in the Welsh International Salon of Photography.  Seven [&hellip;]</p>

<p>At the 2013 Salon Photographique International Le Catalan, held in Perpignan, France, two Mallow Camera Club members John Hooton and Bill Power had eleven acceptances between them.  John had five images accepted, while Bill had six (see panel below).  In addition John Hooton won the Photographic Society of America (PSA) Gold Medal for his image ‘Shipwreck’ [&hellip;]</p>

<p>The 2013 Photographer of the Year Competition was held in Mallow Camera Club on Monday night 27 May.  There was intense, but friendly, competition between members of different grades, and the results reflected the commitment and hard work of club members. When the votes were counted Bill Power emerged as the 2013 Photographer of the [&hellip;]</p>

<p>The next meeting of Mallow Camera Club will take place on Monday 13 May in the Mercy Centre.  The guest speaker will be Gerry Andrews FIPF. Gerry is a native of Limerick and his amazing photographs of the Milk Market in Limerick, taken in the late seventies, have been highly acclaimed, and published in a book. [&hellip;]</p>

<p>On Thursday 16 May 2013 Mallow Camera Club will hold a fundraising night in aid of Special Olympics Ireland.  The main focus of the night will be an exhibition of photography by club members, and a talk by John Hooton.  Other activities will take place on the night &#8211; watch this space for details. <p>Bring your camera gear &#8211; ask any questions you&#8217;d like to know about composition, focussing, lighting, technical stuff, useful or useless accessories. Anything really&#8230; Bring along your photos for advice and critiquing in small discussion groups of four or five people. Ask questions about anything you&#8217;d like to know or have doubts about. <p>Meetings of Mallow Camera Club will be held in the Mercy Centre, Mallow, from now until the end of May 2013. Training for novice members is from 8-8.30 every Monday night, followed by the usual club meeting. Our speaker on 8th April will be Bill Power, who will present a portfolio of his work including [&hellip;]</p>

<p>It&#8217;s a competition night with the theme &#8216;Broken&#8217;. Members can submit three print and three projected images. These can be brought in on the night. Subjects for the theme &#8216;Broken&#8217; could include glass, windows, old houses, closed businesses, broken bulbs, fallen trees, eggs, potholes, death, rusting cars, etc. One website defines broken as &#8220;reduced to fragments, not functioning [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Members are invited to our practical photography skills workshop which is being held in Killarney on Monday next. Anyone interested in traveling is invited to be at The Arches Bar in Mallow by 10am (if you wish to car share) or meet at Molly Dancy&#8217;s Pub at Mucross at 11am. <p>Mallow Camera Club is looking for images for selection on to our panels for the upcoming SACC Interclub Competition, which will take place on 24th March.  The club will be entering three panels again this year, Colour Print, Monochrome Print and Digital Projected Image; each panel consisting of ten images.  Each photographer can have up to two images [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Mallow Camera Club will hold its next meeting in the Mercy Centre, Mallow on Monday next 11th March.  The Mercy Centre is beside St. Mary&#8217;s Secondary School on the north side of the town. <p>No Club Meeting on Monday Night Next due to MacSweeny&#8217;s Photo Show There will be no meeting of Mallow Camera Club on Monday next (4th March).  Members are going instead to the annual Photo Show organised by MacSweeny&#8217;s photo shop in the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork. Doors open for the show at 6 p.m. in the hotel&#8217;s Estuary [&hellip;]</p>

<p>All members are invited to a Club Photo Shoot on Sunday morning next, 3rd March. We&#8217;ll meet outside Saint Mary&#8217;s (Church of Ireland) Church in Doneraile at 10 a.m. The trip is primarily aimed at members who want to improve their skills and get to know their camera gear a little better. <p>Next Monday night is the first night of the club&#8217;s new Three-Month League. The theme is &#8216;Still Life&#8217;. Members may enter three projected images and three prints (colour and/or monochrome). <p>Mallow Camera Club has a new logo &#8211; the first in our 27 history! It was chosen by an email vote of the majority of the committee. The white swan motif is derived from the Irish name for Mallow, which means &#8216;swan&#8217; and is also an allusion to the swan depicted on the Mallow Town [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Bray photographer Fran Byrne will be the guest speaker at Mallow Camera Club on Monday, 18th February. Fran is an excellent landscape, nature and seascape photographer. Many of his images are of the County Wicklow area.
