Mallow Camera Club 1st Meeting

A news clipping from the Mallow Star following the very fiirst meeting of Mallow Camera Club.

BIG ATTENDANCE AT FIRST MEETING OF CAMERA CLUB

Mallow Camera Club's first general meeting was an unqualified success last Monday night, with more than 40 in attendance at what was a most enjoyable and informative get-together. Mr. Maurice Doolan, Chairman, told the meeting that it was very heartening to see such a large attendance at the meeting and said that he could see a big future for the club.

Explaining why he and other people had got together to form the club, Mr. Doolan said that he had attended a course in Photography last October at Mallow Tech. found that once completed he had no way of advancing his knowledge of the art. He could see, he said, a need for a Club where members could come together and improve their knowledge of photography, so on January 27th a group of 8 people met in the Central Hotel to set the Club in motion, and the result of this was the big crowd at the first General Meeting.

John Doheny, Treasurer, also spoke and he stated that the aim of the club was that people would get involved and improve their photographic skills as well as getting pleasure from their photos. Mr. Doheny expressed the wish that more beginners would come to the meetings, as it would be of great benefit to set up a beginner’s course as soon as possible.

Fr. Kelleher, P.P. Dromina, was a guest at the Meeting and he gave a very interesting talk on his photographic forays all over the world, including two Olympic finals and World Championships. He also showed some of his favourite photographs.

John Holland, Vice Chairman told the meeting that inquiries were underway regarding the possibility of joining the National Federation of Photography, and also that Mallow members were invited to a meeting of Thurles and Limerick Photographers on February 26th.

The next meeting will be held on Monday next at 8.30p.m. in the Central Hotel, and any interested people are more than welcome to attend. Mr. Jim Mellicer, Cork Road, has kindly consented to attend the meeting Monday and show some of his slides on the Mallow, which should prove very interesting.
