20 November 2023
Photographer of the Year 2023
The awards ceremony and prize presentation for the Photographer of the Year Competition hosted by Mallow Camera Club took place at the Dinner & Awards evening held at Springfort Hall on Monday 20th November 2023.
This competition, a highlight in the Club's seasonal calendar, drew a substantial number of entries. Participants submitted a set of three printed monochrome images and three printed colour images, all judged individually rather than as a collective panel.
The competition featured four judging grades for MCC members, ranging from Grade 1 for beginners/less-experienced photographers to Grade 4 for the most advanced. Prizes were distributed across each grade and category.
The esteemed judging panel comprised of Ita Martin LIPF EFIAP/p, Paul Stanley FIPF EFIAP/g and Ned Mahon AIPF ARPS EFIAP/g. Their meticulous evaluation of the entries, scoring each image and offering valuable constructive feedback, was highly appreciated by all participants. Special thanks to Ita, Paul and Ned for their significant contributions.
The behind-the-scenes administration of such a contest is substantial, and a heartfelt appreciation goes to Lisa Egan, the Competition Secretary, as well as Assistant Competition Secretaries Niamh Barrett and Helen Vaughan for their dedicated work in organizing and preparing for the competition and its judging. Thanks also to Ann O’ Mara for liaising with Springfort Hall.
Thank you to the Club Members for their efforts in printing both colour and monochrome images and also those for mounting them on the display boards throughout the night. Special thanks also to the talented Noely Ward and Gaz France for providing wonderful entertainment.
A charitable raffle held during the event raised €385, which will be donated to the Liskennet Equine Centre—a facility offering equine therapy for children and adults with additional needs. Thank you to prize donors and ticket buyers for supporting this worthy cause. Thank you to Ann O’ Mara and Anne Buckley for organising the raffle.
Thanks go out to everyone who contributed to the success of the Photographer of the Year Competition.
Congratulations to all the competition winners and thank you to all participants. The standard of submissions was exceptionally high, showcasing numerous outstanding images.
